How to Wear Cowboy Style Ankle Boots

Reader question:

I have cowboy style ankle boots.  How do I wear them in a trendy way?

An ankle height cowboy boot can be a little difficult to pull off.  This is because a boot that short cuts the visual line of your leg, instead of elongating it (like a nude pump would do.)  Model-type figures with long, thin legs may be able to get away with pairing these with skinny jeans, but this look is tough to pull off for most women.

Instead, I recommend pairing your boots with a short, sweet, flirty sundress or skirt and a jean jacket, or a floor-length maxi skirt and close-fitting casual top (like the henley pictured below.)  It's good to pair these boots with either a short hemline, which makes your legs look longer, or a maxi length, which also lengthens the leg.  A shrunken denim jacket like the one shown below also helps to elongate your torso and balance out the look nicely.  I love cowboy boots paired with sweet country accents like white eyelet, delicate florals, lace, and denim.  It is a timeless and no-fail combination that looks sweet and casual but not like you just stepped off a ranch.  Of course, these boots can also be worn with a boot cut style jean and a collared shirt for a true western look a la Kate Middleton.
