How to Build A Chic Wardrobe From Scratch

A Classic Sheath Dress

As someone who shops constantly both for my clients and for myself, I've often wondered what it would be like to clean the slate and start my wardrobe anew.  I figured that this is also a helpful exercise for those that are just starting out a professional wardrobe, or want to reinvent their style from square one.  If you're looking for the basics you need for your work wardrobe, check out this post and this one.  This post also has good items for starting a spring casual wardrobe.  But if I had to start my wardrobe from scratch entirely, these are the items I would buy first.  They are the real wardrobe workhorses that go with everything and that you will get the most wear out of. *Editor's note: I personally own all of these items, or a similar item in another color, and can attest to their greatness.  What are your wardrobe staples??
