So many people's commutes involve walking in DC, and it's certainly not comfortable making the trek in your office heels. Pounding the pavement in heels is also treacherous to your dress shoes, causing heel caps to wear off quickly, dreaded gouges to your heels, and worst: danger and embarrassment if you get stuck in a grate!! Luckily, there are so many options when it comes to stylish and comfortable flats. I used to never wear flats, but I am a complete convert since moving to DC and experiencing all of the horrors listed above -yes I have been stuck in a grate multiple times and no Matthew McConaughey never saved me:(
I am very partial to the Nine West Cacey flat and have written about it many times before (here, here and here.) It has become a go-to in my wardrobe and I was VERY excited to see that they have introduced a lot of great new colors for spring. My favorite by far is the watermelon and tan shade above, which is actually much better and more wearable in person (it's more of a soft coral shade.) I recently discovered the Johnston and Murphy flats below, and think they would make a great addition to any woman's wardrobe- there are tons of colors available and the style is so classic you could easily wear it on the weekend as well with a great pair of casual pants or jeans.
