Something Fun for the Office

Sometimes you want to mix it up a little for the office- without getting too crazy that is.  Especially in DC, many offices are business casual, yet conservative, so you might wonder how to style a fun pencil skirt like the one below.  When in doubt, balance out the playful nature of the skirt with go-to, classic pieces like a crisp, white, bow-front blouse, a classic blazer and great pumps.  This combo works too if you aren't sure how to style a bright pencil skirt like this one for work.  Here's how I'd put the look together using super cute- and super affordable!! pieces on sale right now at The Limited.  Mix the basics with one trendier item for a fun, fresh look that makes you look fashionable but still work appropriate.  If your office is more casual/creative, go the distance with a fabulous pair of pink pumps instead of navy!

That's So Clutch

Reader question:

I noticed you show many cute clutches on the blog and I feel like I need more clutches in my wardrobe.  Can you give some ideas for finding clutches?

Having a good selection of versatile clutches is a great way to inject personality into your clothes and look more polished.  I love the way an interesting clutch elevates and outfit, adding that perfect piece that completes the look.  Here are some of my favorite clutches in stores now, all of which would make fabulous additions to your summer wardrobe:

Vacation Series: What to Pack for a Mediterranean Getaway Day 1 - 2

Day 1 Daytime:

For those lucky enough to be traveling to a Mediterranean locale this summer (so jealous!) here is what I'd pack.  Again, when packing for a trip stick to one style and color scheme so you can get the maximum wear out of everything.  I went with a cool blue theme here to match the Mediterranean sea:) Breezy dresses, simple sandals, and cute mix-and-match accessories make for an effortlessly glam vacation!  Here are looks for Day 1 and 2, tomorrow I'll post Day 3 & 4.  Bon voyage (or rather: ασφαλές ταξίδι!)

Style Secret: Rent The Runway

If you have a black tie or formal event coming up this summer and want to look AMAZING, let me let you in on a little secret you may or may not know about already.  Enter Rent the Runway, a fabulous online service that lets you rent gorgeous designer gowns for a fraction of their retail price.  I haven't tried the service yet, but am planning to use it for an upcoming photo shoot (if you have used it already let me know how your experience was in the comments!)  So far, in reviewing their site, I am a big fan.  The nice thing about RTR is that they have a good selection of wearable items that I could see a lot of women wearing to weddings, dances, formal receptions, etc.  They also offer very cute jewelry and handbags to complete your look!  It is not cheap by any means, but compared to the cost of buying a comparable gown and only wearing it once it is a smart and economical choice.  Because let's be honest- did anyone ever wear their prom or formal maid of honor dress again?  This is also a good choice if you're attending a red carpet event where you know you'll be photographed and therefore wouldn't want to repeat your outfit.  Here are some of my favorite black tie looks available on the site right now:
