The Best Combat Boots for Spring

Sooo.... all I am craving lately is plaid and combat boots! LMAO!!! The 90's called and it wants it's style back- hahaha but seriously though I LOVE combat boots paired with black yoga pants and a tee, or with jeans and tee/henley/plaid for a cute-casual spring look!

Ask any of my friends and they'll tell you I'm primarily a heels 24/7 girl, but lately I have a lot of outdoor activities on my schedule that require ...more practical footwear - lol! Aaaanyway I love this look! I think it's so cute and cool and slightly British and punk-rock. In a funny way it's also a timeless look, as combat boots are always going to be an a**-kicking addition to your wardrobe.

I am not sure about the practicality of these, but I love the look! So cute. Glitter makes everything more fun.

These. are. AWESOME!!! They have kind of mixed reviews in terms of the quality, but they're so cute I'd be willing to try them out.

I also really like them in black:

And in red!

I also really like these white ones. My only hesitation is I wonder how practical a white boot is... but again, for the price I'd probably give them a try.

These over-the-knee ones are bomb but might be a bit hot for spring. They are pretty fierce though:

The classic:

I have to say I love that these have a zipper compartment for valuables. That's genius! They also come in a BUNCH of different colors. I looked at a LOT of combat boots, but these have great reviews, I love the look and the compartment, and for the price these would probably be my choice.

Happy shopping *and stomping* ladies!

Packing Guide: What to Wear to Visit Your Parents in the Midwest

You guys this is seriously one of the HARDEST blog posts I've EVER had to write!!! Know why? Because dressing for a Midwestern climate is a logistical nightmare and it normally ain't that cute. Yes I said ain't! I'm from the Midwest!:)

Aaaanyway I feel like I've finally come very very close to pinning down the winning formula that is the right combination of a crazy amount of layers to be ready for all the types of weather you know are going to come at you, while still looking somewhat put-together. Enjoy!

First we have your new best friend: the flannel button down:

This is key because it's really warm yet light enough to work all year round. I just got back from Michigan and even though some days were 70 degrees I pretty much wore this constantly because, you know, a cloud can come over and the temperature drops 10 - 15 degrees instantly;) This is THE best plaid button down EVER! It's literally my favorite weekend shirt (besides the henley above.) Just so comfy, and strikes the perfect balance of weekend casual-cool, feels like pajamas, yet still looks like an outfit. Just the best.

Next up: bring a few tees in different colors (e.g. navy, gray, and white). They're the perfect light underneath layer, and you can tie them up too to look a little extra cute, since it's kind of a
masculine look overall:

Layering is key when temperatures can fluctuate 20 - 30 degrees in the course of a day. This way you can easily take off (or add) layers and you'll always be the perfect temperature.

Your next key layering piece is the quilted vest:

I am absolutely obsessed with vests. Here's why: they're warm but not bulky, so you can add an extra layer of coziness without looking like the Michelin Man. Awesome. They also look very cool and are a timeless piece of outerwear that will never go out of style. ALSO: because they're sleeveless you can easily pop a jacket over top if you need yet ANOTHER layer! It will work perfectly and looks awesome. Very country-cutie.

Also completely necessary- your hometown team's hoodie:

A cozy extra layer you're sure to need at night or on the plane.

Next up: jeans. You'll need jeans and yoga pants aplenty- that is self explanatory and either can be substituted for this look:

Now THIS is a CRUCIAL part of the look: waterproof shoes. For wet days/ any outdoor activities/ hiking you're gonna need some waterproof shoes:

Quilted Rain Boots: $12.99 (Amazon) *I also love these - because patriotism never goes out of style!:)

This is something that comes up on literally EVERY trip I make home. I never bring these and I ALWAYS need them and inevitably always regret it.

And then, at the same time for dry days you're also gonna need a good pair of comfy, casual shoes for walking around:

Sperry Top-Sider Slip-on Sneaker: $54.99 (DSW)

I think ideally you should go for a darker colored sneaker like these (not white), because you know, the weather could and probably will change at any moment.

I would also throw a pair of flat sandals into your suitcase - you'll probably end up needing those too:)

I like eyewear that is sporty for this look, since you'll probably be doing some outdoor activities:

I knew I had picked the right eyewear for my recent trip when my Dad asked me if I was wearing his glasses (apparently he has the same pair lol lol:)

And last but not least:

Nothing says home like fuzzy slippers. And you know your feet are going to get chilly. Don't play;)

*Please note that this is NOT a lake look. Good lord, we'll do that in another post!

The Perfect Day to Night Outfit

Hi ladies! Happy Hump Day, hope everyone is having a great week so far!:) Here is a quick little outfit that I have been LOVING lately! So easy and SO cute! I am obsessed with this wrap top we just got into the boutique- here's why: it is the PERFECT completer piece!!! What's a completer piece? Well you know when you find an awesome sleeveless dress that you love, but then you get chilly in the office or need it to look a bit more conservative and cover your shoulders? Enter the completer piece. This wrap is so wonderful because it looks great worn over practically any little sheath dress to give an extra layer of warmth and coverage, yet at the same time looking completely pulled together.  Plus it's a wrap top so it highlights the smallest part of your waist, creating and hourglass figure, and the floats away from the tummy area so it's extremely figure-flattering. So pretty much the Holy Grail of tops here guys! No big deal- but ... it's a big deal! Haha;)

Pair with ANY little sheath dress and you've got yourself an instant outfit. I've been wearing mine with these two dresses from the boutique lately and it looks SO cute and works perfectly for the office:

This is also a FABULOUS look to transition from work to evening! It's dressy and cute enough for dinner or drinks after work, and you can easily take off the wrap top if you want to be a little more casual/show a little more skin.

Add a strappy sandal or pair of pumps, a great bag and some sunnies and you're out the door looking FAB in mere minutes:

How cute is this tote? It would make a great little work bag. Also this one is on sale now (half off)!

These sunglasses are one of my finds of the season! SO cute and SO affordable so you won't feel bad when you loose them/scratch them (me *cough*;)

Have a lovely day ladies!

Rainy Night Going Out Look

Cobalt Striped High-Waisted Bodycon Skirt: $45.00 (Cosita Boutique)

Hi Ladies! We just got this skirt into the boutique- it is super cute but I'll be honest I was thinking about it as a work skirt but it's way too bodycon and bootylicious for that! Haha!;) Buuuuut it is still really cute and would work great for a going out look.  Here's how I'd style the it for one of those nights when it's rainy and a little chilly but you still want to look fabulous. This look would work for going out to dinner, going to hear some live music, mid-week date night, happy hour etc. etc!

Square Neck Crop Top: $6.99 (Forever 21)

The skirt is high-waisted, so it looks awesome paired with a black crop top! It could work equally well with a sleeveless crop top, an off-the-shoulder top, or even a cropped or wrap sweater.  So many options!

Mango Leather Biker Jacket: $199.99 *love this one too (and it's way cheaper!)

Of course I'd throw on your favorite moto jacket with this look- so cool an always a winner! Mango makes really great moto jackets, I have one I bought in Spain many many years ago and it's still a go-to piece for me to this day!

Reversible Oblong Fringe Scarf: $10.00 (Forever 21)

I love a cozy, nubby scarf with a look like this to warm it up.  Tuck the scarf into your jacket for a really cozy effect and a totally chic look!

Steve Madden Bellen Cross Body Bag: $39.99 (DSW)

I really like this little crossbody- a bit edgy and the patent gloss finish adds fun texture to the outfit.

Dual Ankle Strap Sandals: $21.59 (Charlotte Russe)

And you can't go wrong with a great pair of stilettos for evening! This pair with the double strap and little silver buckles would complete the look perfectly.

Hope everyone has a good day today!

Big hug!
Emily xoxo

A Simply Chic Work Outfit

Happy Monday ladies! What better way to start a new week than with a super cute new work dress!! I am absolutely LOVING this chic little sheath dress! it's so pretty for spring and the combination with this wrap top is perfection! You couldn't find an easier, more polished look that you can literally throw on in seconds!  That to me is what great style should be- fashion meets function, so I am ALL about this look!

The dress is so cute on its own and could easily be worn to transition from a daytime event to an after-work networking event or dinner.  You can wear it with pumps, a strappy heeled sandal, a strappy flat sandal OR a wedge and it would look equally great with them all, so it's super versatile!

I'm also SO excited to introduce this top for the boutique! It is literally the perfect wrap top that can either be worn casually with jeans, or dressy with a sheath dress or pencil skirt for work, covering your shoulders and adding a light layer.  It's also extremely figure-flattering because it emphasizes the smallest part of your waist creating an hourglass figure! And because it's a wrap top you can size it to fit your waist exactly. Love love LOVE!

These sandals are great. I want them - lol:) I also think they're just low enough and dressy enough to work for an office environment.

To transition the look the evening, I 'd swap out the beige sandals for a pair of strappy black heels. These from H&M are a steal and would make a great addition to any wardrobe. They're one of those staple items that you'll never regret buying and are sure to get so much wear out of!

I love this bag to complete the look! It would be so cute for work and you could also wear it on the weekend with a more casual jeans and sweater/ jeans and tee look. Also a great price - I love DSW I get pretty much all of my daytime totes there and they hold up really well!

Strappy Wraparound Sandals: $17.90 (Forever 21)

Finally, if you're looking for a cute pair of flats to wear with this look I think these would look awesome!

That's it for me, hope everyone has a chic and lovely Monday!

Big hug,

Cute Casual Look for the Weekend

Happy Sunday y'all!  Hope everyone is having a fabulous and restful weekend!  So this may seem kind of silly, but one of the things I struggle with is coming up with cute casual outfits for low key weekend activities (walking the dog, running to the store etc. etc.) EVERY day is a runway in my book, so I want a cute outfit for all of that- thank you very much! Lol;) Annnyway, I overheard some ladies saying the other morning running errands "that's what I hate about spring, no one knows what to wear" lol lol - I think these problems are related so here goes a cute outfit idea for running around on the weekend in the spring weather! Plenty of layers so you can remove/add whatever you need to suit the weather that particular day. Enjoy!

The jacket above is the BEST investment piece for your wardrobe!!! I have two (embarrassed/guilty face;) but I literally wear them ALL the time! All year round! For casual, to and from work, etc. etc.! They go with anything and elevate any outfit.  Seriously one of those wardrobe staple/investment pieces that I really recommend to people because it's going to look really chic and you'll get SO much wear out of it. Any it will stay in style for ever so you'll have it for so many years to come. End rant lol! Anyway I love the coffee bean color above, and also LOVE this one in blue too - how cute!

I LOVE this type of scarf. H&M has great ones. They're super soft and lovely for any time you're feeling a little chilly and need that extra layer of warmth. I bought this one and it's such a beautiful blue color.

You CANNOT go wrong with a henley for the weekend as far as I'm concerned! I love how comfy and cute they are. Casual and effortless at its finest, yet pulled together looking (at least, more pulled-together looking than a tee and yoga pants- haha;)

Favorite jeans ever. Enough said.

I just got these from Target and can say first hand that they are the ULTIMATE cute white sneaker for running around town!  LOVE LOVE LOVE them- these are the type of shoes I know I'll live in this spring/summer and for the price I'm probably going to go back and get a second pair (lol;)

Enjoy the rest of the weekend ladies!!!
